Elle Muliarchyk

My sister sent me this video. Elle Muliarchyk is both the model and the photographer in her work, taking pictures in dressing rooms guerilla style. The images she gets are quite astounding. I could try to make a connection between her methodology, and the obsessive self-portraiture of the digital camera toting myspace/facebook generation, but...I think I just did.

Digitile

Digitile is a company that handles custom printing on ceramic tiles, so you can upload your own photos and designs and put them on your walls. My showers would be exponentially cooler.

Stephen K. Schuster

Kelly is simply (as the photographer Stephen K. Schuster said) “a limited-edition photography book on a past relationship". It had a 25 initial booklet run, but the website features some of the lovely photographs.


You can almost feel the spaces between the pictures: the nuances of memory and feeling that come with love. They say that when Picasso would paint his women, the abstractions would get more intense the longer the relationship had lasted. What a frame art can make for the viewing of a relationship!

A Staunch (Young) Woman

I find it utterly fabulous that Melanie of the blog Beanpaste used dress up time to dress her daughter up as Little Edie Beale. I watched the documentary Grey Gardens for the first time recently and was captivated by Edie's style and spitfire personality, as much as by the oddity of her and her mother's Miss Havisham-esque existence in their crumbling 28 room East Hamptons mansion. Below is the real Edie for comparison. A very staunch woman.

1930s-40s in Color

The Flickr photostream from The Library of Congress is a fantastic treat I found clicking around Sally Jane Vintage. It has tons of scanned slides from pre-WWII to the late 40's, showing a world we usually see in black and white in all its vibrant color.

Back in Action: Obama in the 1980s

Whew. The finals/christmas/family road-trip portion of the year left little time for internet craziness, but replaced it with even more fulfilling craziness. Now it's over and here I am (in fact there might even be a little more of me from all this holiday food...).

I saw these floating around the internet awhile ago, and I'm sure you did too. But in case you missed the adorable images of our president elect (anyone else counting down to January 20th?), I figured they were cute enough to post again.

Sheila Bocchine Pinhole Photography

I was blown away by the images Sheila Bocchine gets out of her wooden pinhole camera! There's no lens, as light goes through the pinhole and directly onto the film for exposures. Basically, a light-proof box with a tiny aperture.

As one commentator pointed out, this is just proof that good pictures come from good photographers, not necessarily the top of the line equipment. I think a pinhole camera would make a great gift for any of those creative types in your life, those crazy cats.

Little People Need Love Too

She also makes greeting cards.

I miss playing with those guys. I would build little cities of blocks and cardboard under my Nana's feet as she cooked collard greens and tried her best not to destroy Fisher Price civilizations. My other grandmother still has the Little People houses in her basement from when my mom and her siblings were little people too.
