Mood Boards

I am obsessed with mood boards lately! School has made me construct lots and lots of them, and I find them a great help when I get stuck on a design project. Photography and colors are obsessions of mine too, so communicating the feeling of an event or project by collecting inspirational material is super fun for me. I found a fabulous wedding blog (which is inspirational and fabulous even if you aren't tying the knot) that regularly features mood boards like the pretty one below. 100 Layer Cake is totally beautiful and worth a browse.

A Staunch (Young) Woman

I find it utterly fabulous that Melanie of the blog Beanpaste used dress up time to dress her daughter up as Little Edie Beale. I watched the documentary Grey Gardens for the first time recently and was captivated by Edie's style and spitfire personality, as much as by the oddity of her and her mother's Miss Havisham-esque existence in their crumbling 28 room East Hamptons mansion. Below is the real Edie for comparison. A very staunch woman.

Pretty Paper Pictures

I was wowed by these three dimensional paper pop-ups by California artist Jayme McGowan. I can't imagine how much time goes into each one to achieve such detail and beauty. You can buy some of her work on Etsy too! (yay!)

It kind of reminds me of Emerson Cod's pop-up predilection on Pushing Daisies.

Palin Comparison

Love her or hate her, it's hard to deny that Sarah Palin has become a bit of a sensation. I personally would like to give a lot of credit to my dream-wife Tina Fey, but you can't write quotes that good.

This site easily becomes a black hole for free time, though that time is spent being rather amused. People submit various notes they've received or seen, mostly from roommates and neighbors airing various grievances. I tend to like the facebook status updates.

This site has been a fabulous source of good laughter (and procrastination). Compiled from real life text-messages, aim conversations, emails, and other modern correspondence from well-meaning moms everywhere, the content is as relatable as it is funny.

Cake Wrecks

Cake is one of the joys of life. Share it with a friend. Unless it's a cake wreck. This blog showcases professionally decorated cakes that are inappropriate, language challenged, and horribly, hilariously wrong. The snarky commentary had me laughing with tears.



I especially love when the disaster is prefaced with the example from the order catalog. Now I want a cupcake!

Kate Beaton

Livejournal spotlighted Kate Beaton this last week, a young woman who draws comics about her life, historical figures like Napoleon, and–of course–Murphy Brown. I spent as much time giggling at my computer screen as falling in love with her simple drawing style.


And these paint drawings of hers are pure genius. Genius, I say!
