A Little Inspiration

I always tell my friend Inez she lives in a creative mess. I tend to live in a pile of paper scraps and dull xacto knives, so I'm a little envious of people whose clutter improves their space. And doesn't cut them.

Serendipity and Circle Scarves

I'm prone to little bouts of melancholy in the winter, but a new obsession has me excited about bundling up: circle scarves!

I bought a few from RachelFixed on Etsy in lovely oatmeal tones. I think they make great christmas gifts, don't you? And they come at lovely prices too (just $25 for the regular size!).

I lusted after the American Apparel circle scarf based on its versatility (hood, dress, top...whatever!), but settled for tying some of my pashminas together at the ends to achieve the same effect.

And my favoritest (and you'll have to excuse that word, but it really must be used to convey the love I have for this) is my Evie hooded cowl from SmittenKitten. Oh yes, it is fabulously cozy, versatile, and flawlessly made. Oh, it is love.

(apparently I'm not the only one under this spell)

Baby Disco

Apparently this hip new club among the 3-7 year old set is in Paris as a sort of art piece. With regular Colette dance classes, their own DJ, and a slightly creepy panda bartender giving out milk, the club’s hour long sessions are spent parent free and dance crazed.

Little People Need Love Too

How cute is this Little People school portrait from PlayFamilyHouse's Etsy?

She also makes greeting cards.

I miss playing with those guys. I would build little cities of blocks and cardboard under my Nana's feet as she cooked collard greens and tried her best not to destroy Fisher Price civilizations. My other grandmother still has the Little People houses in her basement from when my mom and her siblings were little people too.

Lane Collins Photography

I'm hovering somewhere between awe and jealousy with these photos from Lane Collins. American-born, she is now living in New Zealand "in search of inspiration and adventure". It would seem that she found it.

Comme des Garcons @ H&M

Comme des Garcons' much anticipated line for H&M hits stores today! The looks of cult favorite avant-garde designer Rei Kawakubo merges with H&M affordability in this rare collaboration that includes women’s, men’s, accessories, and a limited unisex fragrance.

I'm stuck in class instead of browsing the racks as this drops, which leaves me hoping that we don't see another Cavalli-esque incident. In the San Francisco H&M flagship store the women's line sold out within the first 10 minutes! Which baffles me because you can't even get to the front of the register in that amount of time...maybe all that cheetah print sped the process up.

Mankind is No Island

I see homelessness every day of my life in San Francisco, and this video really hit home. The two cities it features are two of my favorite places in the world. It is beautiful, honest, and simple.

44 Presidents

44 Presidents & A Letter to a Cat is almost a comic, but most certainly funny. You can get a copy of it for only 2.50 here! Boy do I love Etsy.

A Polaroid a Day...

A polaroid everyday for a year, from the camera of Monica Clapcott. What a marvelous idea.

(I can't remember how I stumbled upon this. Oops.)

Reactions Around the World

Kenya.

Indonesia.

India.

Georgia.

Chicago.

My favorite thing about Obama's win is that the world is celebrating with us. I love that this hope and positive energy has united so many people.

Pretty Paper Pictures

I was wowed by these three dimensional paper pop-ups by California artist Jayme McGowan. I can't imagine how much time goes into each one to achieve such detail and beauty. You can buy some of her work on Etsy too! (yay!)

It kind of reminds me of Emerson Cod's pop-up predilection on Pushing Daisies.

Head Hoods

Too much fun is being had with Head Hoods.

Halloween is over, but you don't have to relinquish your dress up rights after all. And if someone asks if you can be president, you can pull up your Barack hoodie and say "Yes we can." Then you just have to justify talking about yourself plurally. But I can't help you there.

Max Kerning

My friend and fellow graphic design student Briana turned me on to this funny and fabulous promotional site for Suitcase Fusion 2.

Good design cannot happen without proper Typography. And a big part of making type look pretty is the space between the letters, which is adjusted through kerning. As Max says:

Improper letter spacing is a visual assault. Serif or sans serif, all text must be sans chaos. Fulfillment can be found in a clean font.

He must have heard of my loathing for Comic Sans. Oh Max Kerning, marry me.
