Rainy Evenings Playlist

It's been quite rainy here in San Francisco, and I haven't minded one bit. I get to walk around in my clear bubble umbrella and drink hot tea (despite Jordan's feelings on the matter). It's been extra nice falling asleep to rain sounds. I've had a little rainy playlist for doing my package design homework indoors. I thought I would share it with you darlings!

When I Grow Up

When I Grow Up from Fever Ray on Vimeo.

This video is pretty, but the first time I watched it it kinda wierded me out. I love the song, as it sounds a bit like Santogold and Lykke Li got together stylistically and had a baby. I also like the outfit, despite it being a better version of the ensemble worn by the Guy Behind Winkie's in David Lynch's Mulholland Drive. There's just something about the hair in the face and her dancing that makes me think of...Samarra in The Ring. Still, like with most things that are on the creepy/cool border, my vote eventually landed decidedly on cool.

What News Anchors Do During Commercial Breaks

This. Is. Great.

From the WGN YouTube description: "News anchors Robert Jordan and Jackie Bange have been together for many years. This whole thing started out really small and simple."

There's a little interview about the handshake (including explanations about what some of the moves mean) here.

Eco Graffiti

"El&Abe aims to lift itself off the paper format and into our physical environment, creating accessible artwork and design that relies upon sustainable concepts and methods."

Whoa.

Stephen K. Schuster

Kelly is simply (as the photographer Stephen K. Schuster said) “a limited-edition photography book on a past relationship". It had a 25 initial booklet run, but the website features some of the lovely photographs.

You can almost feel the spaces between the pictures: the nuances of memory and feeling that come with love. They say that when Picasso would paint his women, the abstractions would get more intense the longer the relationship had lasted. What a frame art can make for the viewing of a relationship!

Just Add Bacon

Put bacon on top of any website. Why? Because you can. Genius.

Also try unicorns.

A Staunch (Young) Woman

I find it utterly fabulous that Melanie of the blog Beanpaste used dress up time to dress her daughter up as Little Edie Beale. I watched the documentary Grey Gardens for the first time recently and was captivated by Edie's style and spitfire personality, as much as by the oddity of her and her mother's Miss Havisham-esque existence in their crumbling 28 room East Hamptons mansion. Below is the real Edie for comparison. A very staunch woman.

50 People, 1 Question

I love things like this video...it makes me laugh, feel sorta sad, and feel connected to the world all at once. I miss Brooklyn sometimes.

Kittens, Inspired by Kittens

One of my best friends found this video, and I was expecting it to be overly cutesey (kittens? small blonde girl child?) but it was hilarious and cute in the best possible way. I was laughing very hard despite myself. The narration is awesome.

Branding Obama

Logo Design Love summed up an interview with Sol Sender, who led the design team for the Obama campaign logo. The post featured some of the ideas that didn't quite make the cut. It is interesting to see the process preceeding the ubiquitous "O"–some of the solutions were beautifully modern.

Dance Dance

More enchanting video, reminiscent of Improv Everywhere.

Her Morning Elegance

I ran across this on All the Good Things, and thought the video brilliant and unique. The song is by Oren Lavie, who also directed the video, and got a lot of play in my itunes a few months back. So cute and refreshing.

Kermit Bale

This may be one of the best livejournal posts ever: a photographic comparison of the commonalities of Christian Bale and Kermit the Frog. Gotta love the internet.
