Awesome Costumes

American Apparel is hosting their annual costume contest. The only real rule is that you have to use some of their clothing. With all the color and style selection, that's not too hard, and people certainly came up with awesome ideas. My own costume is pretty much all AA this year (70's basketball player), so I thought I post up some people who got a little more creative than I did.

I'm one of those people who give you a dirty look if you tarnish the minimalistic beauty of the Macbook by putting a sticker or some other blemish on its apple-y goodness. But then I saw these beauties, and I must admit I could even use the word "love" in describing my feelings. Never say never.

Spooky Stories: One Bloody Thing After Another

The creators of A Softer World (writer Joey Comeau and photogtapher Emily Horne) have written a horror story in serial form. Each chapter is posted every few days, with the final installment on Halloween night.

Much like the fabulous weekly comic, the first five chapters are sad and funny and creepy in all the best ways.

"Margaret can't stand the way Annette gets when she hasn't eaten. Most of the time, it's easy to remember that she isn't really Margaret's sister anymore. She's something else. She grunts and howls and makes animal sounds. But after a few days without food, she starts finding words. Always random words, like accidents, but in Annette's voice..."

Love her or hate her, it's hard to deny that Sarah Palin has become a bit of a sensation. I personally would like to give a lot of credit to my dream-wife Tina Fey, but you can't write quotes that good.

So what is the logical next proponent of Palin-mania? Obviously having people draw her likeness and submit them to a blog with a pun-tastic name. Enter Palin Comparison.

Fun Fascinators

Decorative headgear has come back in a big way the last few seasons, whether they're bands worn low and hippie-like, or fascinators conjuring up images of the roaring twenties. Any way you wear it, I'm a fan. And if it has feathers, even more so.

Yesterday I attempted to break the camel's back by buying just one more headband (okay so manybe two) and found a lot of cool pieces. Here's some flair for your pretty little head:

The only way I manage to sidestep the end of summer depression is to plan my fall outfits. Goodbye warm weather, hello layers. My wishlist this year is a far-fetched one (dior extremes and a faux fur swing coat?), but that's where the "wish" part comes in I suppose. I've been getting all kinds of inspiration from the folks on Lookbook.nu to revitalize the wardrobe I already have. Aspiring stylists and fashionistas (male fashionistos?) from all over the world post up their daily outfits. Users rate their favorites, and the ones with the most "Hype" make a prestigious weekly list. Even the photos are beautiful.

Passive Agressive Notes

This site easily becomes a black hole for free time, though that time is spent being rather amused. People submit various notes they've received or seen, mostly from roommates and neighbors airing various grievances. I tend to like the facebook status updates.

Just Click Your Heels

A bevy of designers, including Christian Louboutin, Jimmy Choo, Manolo Blahnik, L.A.M.B and many more have been working on special edition ruby red pumps for the 70th anniversary of The Wizard of Oz.'

The Ruby Slipper Collection unveiled at Saks Fifth Avenue in NYC during Fashion Week, and is now touring the country before the shoes are auctioned off to benefit the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation next year.



In fact the shoes will be on display in all their glory in my lovely San Francisco October 21-26. There's no place like home!
