Drunk History

Drunk History, Vol. I - IV is a collection of hilariousness I found today via this blog. And it is wonderous. "Why is that good miss?", you might be asking your computer screen. Well, it would be because someone gets very, very drunk and attempts to discuss a famous historical event. This tale is then re-enacted by people like Michael Cera and Jack Black.

Hilarity ensues.

Improv Everywhere

Improv Everywhere is a NYC based group that "causes scenes of chaos and joy in public places". Created in August of 2001 by Charlie Todd, they've has executed over 80 "missions" involving thousands of undercover "agents". Missions have ranged from The MP3 Experiment (where 826 people downloaded the same mp3, pressed play at the same time, and followed its directions), to The Moebius (where agents meticulously repeated a five-minute slice of time for twelve consecutive repetitions inside a Starbucks), to Welcome Back (where 20 agents waited with signs and flowers in an airport welcoming back perfect strangers). My personal favorite? When 16 agents created a musical in the middle of an unsuspecting food court. I've always wished my life would spontaneously burst into a musical.

The website features tons of video of the events, and gives information about how you can become an agent should you find yourself in NYC.

Baby Disco

Apparently this hip new club among the 3-7 year old set is in Paris as a sort of art piece. With regular Colette dance classes, their own DJ, and a slightly creepy panda bartender giving out milk, the club’s hour long sessions are spent parent free and dance crazed.

Awesome Costumes

American Apparel is hosting their annual costume contest. The only real rule is that you have to use some of their clothing. With all the color and style selection, that's not too hard, and people certainly came up with awesome ideas. My own costume is pretty much all AA this year (70's basketball player), so I thought I post up some people who got a little more creative than I did.

M.A.S.H.

After the cootie-catcher, few tools are as useful to elementary school kids as the game M.A.S.H. (well, maybe inky-binky-bonky). With scrap paper and a friend, you mixed a jambalaya of wishes and worst nightmares, until a number two pencil inevitably told you your fate of driving a pink porsche, having 12 kids, working as a pony trainer, and marrying the kid who smelled like old juice boxes.

Your crushes have probably changed, and your future might not be exactly what you wanted when your were painting your nails with white out, but thanks to Espin.com, you can still play MASH! Coolio.

The Great Slumber

I found these pillows by artist and designer Keetra Dean Dixon some time ago, and I still want one. As she states on her website, the pillows "are inspired by those suspenseful moments when a sleeping loved one is a little too still for a little too long."



I might be a creeper, but I think they're just brilliant. But that girl is full of grand ideas.

Park(ing) Day in SF

Today as I was heading out of the Fine Arts building for lunch I saw an interesting sight:


These people were participating in Park(ing) Day here in San Francisco. Trust for Public Land, the organizers of the event, describe it like this:

"PARK(ing) Day is a one-day, global event centered in San Francisco where artists, activists, and citizens collaborate to temporarily transform metered parking spots into 'PARK(ing)' spaces: temporary public parks."

I must say I think it's brilliant. I wished I could skip class to feed the meter all day. Sometimes we need a little patch of personal green in the middle of the concrete jungle.

Lilly McElroy Wants to Jump On You

Really. She does. Lilly is working on a series of photos titled "I Throw Myself At Men", which is at once hilarious and wickedly interesting. Heaven knows I love a good double entendre. For the project, she goes into bars and asks men if she can jump on them. If they say yes, she takes running leaps while a friend snaps photographs. And how awesome is that?

Garden Gnomes for Obama

As November draws near, it's common to see lots of special interest buttons and paraphanalia in support of Barack Obama. I've seen "Teachers for Obama", "Nurses for Obama" and even "Filipinos for Obama" buttons. But nothing tops the buttons they have here.
